The answer for this question is very simple: it is called Ceaser Cipher.
It consists of replacing a character by another located in (current character position + (key-1)), where key = how many positions you want to skip.
For Example: VICTORY -> YLFWRUB with the key = 3.
Then SUCCESS -> QXFFHQQ

Note: it should work like a circle(Z+1 = A).

In any time period, the family making out babies and half boys and another half girls then, In the next time period: half the families turn themselves off and again the half remaining families making out the babies which repeat the first period.

Let the required term be x.

Pattern :- 1) Find the difference between consecutive terms as :

2 – 1 = 1

4 – 2 = 2

13 – 4 = 9

31 – 13 = 18

112 – 31 = 81

2) Now write the above numbers obtained by differences in series as :

1, 2, 9, 18, 81, y

(Suppose y be next term after 81.)

3) Look the difference series carefully and it follows the below pattern as :

(9 * 2)/1 = 18

(18 * 9)/2 = 81

(81 * 18)/9 = 162 = y (the next term after 81)

Thus the required answer is :

x = 112 + y

x = 112 +162 =274

(1/2 + 1/2) = 1
2(1 + 1/2) = 3
2(3 + 1/2) = 7
2(7 + 1/2) = 15
2(15 + 1/2) = 31
