Ques:- Sum of two numbers is 80. Greater number exceeds by 5 from four times of the smaller. Find the numbers?

Let x and y be the two numbers. And x > y.
Then,
x + y = 80—–(1)
y=80-y
Also,
x = 4y – 5
Solving the two equations,
80 – y = 4y – 5
85 = 5y
Therefore, y = 17
put the value of y in equation(1)
then
x+y=80
x+17=80
x=63
the numbers are 17&63

Ques:- X, Y and Z can do a piece of work in 24, 30 and 40 days respectively. They start the work together but Z leaves 4 days before the completion of the work. In how many days is the work done?

One day’s work of A, B and C = (1/24 + 1/30 + 1/40) = 1/10.

C leaves 4 days before completion of the work, which means only A and B work during the last 4 days.

Work done by A and B together in the last 4 days = 4 (1/24 + 1/30) = 3/10.

Remaining Work = 7/10, which was done by A,B and C in the initial number of days.

Number of days required for this initial work = 7 days.

Thus, the total numbers of days required = 4 + 7 = 11 days.

Time taken to fill repaired cistern = 12 mins

In 1 min, pipe will fill = 1/12

Time taken to fill cistern with leak = 12 + 18 = 30 mins

In 1 min, it will fill = 1/30

Consider the leak as an outlet pipe, so

1/30 = 1/12 – [ in 1 min how much the outlet pipe leaks ]

= 1/12 – 1/30

= 5/60 – 2/60 = 3/60 = 1/20

Therefore, it will take 20 mins for the leak to empty the cistern

Since, there are 10 points on the circle and to draw a chord we need to connect any two points on the circle to make it a straight line, which implies that the number of chords = No of lines connecting any two points out of the 10 points
